Salvacion Peñalosa Closa, a beloved mother and grandmother, entered into eternal rest with our Creator at age 87, on July 25, 2021. She was born on August 9, 1933 in Alang-alang, Leyte, Philippines to Antonio Peñalosa and Engracia Denalo. "Nanay" or "Nanay Vacion", as we called her, was cherished for her constant devotion to her kids and grandchildren. She moved to the United States 14 years ago to join her daughter’s new family, and yearly going back home until she had a mild stroke in 2010. Among relatives and friends, she was loved for her welcoming heart, always attending, entertaining and making them feel at home.
Nanay Vacion, was a member of the Branches Christian Alliance Ministries and Center for Community Transformation in the Philippines. She also attended Times Square Church, Bread of Life Asian Ministries and Beth Israel Jerusalem Center in New York City and New Jersey. She volunteered in many community health programs and activities supporting indigent children and families in the Philippines. She also enjoyed gardening, dancing and listening to 60s music.
Nanay Vacion was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Engracia, siblings Calixto Peñalosa, Josefa Orbeta and Constancia Arpon, and husband Ernesto Mesias Closa. She is survived by her children Luzvimindo Closa, Emillie Closa Celestial, Ernesto Closa, Jr. and Janet Closa-Candelaria, sons-in-law Jimmy Celestial and Antonio Candelaria, grandchildren Lois Teya, Tyra, Jemimah, Jeremiah Joseph, Christopher, Christian, Charlie, Charmaine, Joseph Anthony and Helen Elizabeth, nieces and nephews, friends and many people both here and in the Philippines whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Zuasola Funeral Homes of New Jersey, 44 Bay Ave. Bloomfield, NJ 07003. A short service to celebrate the life of Nanay Vacion will start at 10:00 am and a link to the Facebook live https://www.facebook.com/Zuasolafuneralhomesofnewjersey.
One important lesson that we learned from Nanay Vacion is to gratefully receive the blessings of God and others, so you in turn can be a blessing. Nanay Vacion has left many beautiful and wonderful memories of a life well-lived and a life well-loved.
