Dr. Maximo Urdaneta Mendoza, 71, went home to be with the Lord on September 19, 2021 at Hackensack University Medical Center.
He was born to parents Aurelia Urdaneta and Amador Silao Mendoza on April 13, 1950 in Cebu City, Philippines. He was conferred with an honorary Doctorate in Divinity from Marietta Bible College, Ohio. Pastor Max, as he was affectionately known, was the founding Pastor of Bergen Bible Baptist Church in Lodi, NJ and served as Pastor for thirty-three years. He also served as Chaplain in the U.S. Navy and for the New York Guard. He was well-loved by his congregation, the missionaries and their families who he supported, and the countless lives he touched during his ministry.
On June 19, 1976, Pastor Max married Josefina Rendal who shared with him a life devoted to serving the Lord. They celebrated their 45th anniversary this past June. He is also survived by his daughters, Myra and January, his six grandchildren—Emily, Elisabeth, Evangelyn, Elayna, Eloise, and Ezra, and his sons-in-law Samuel and Pete. He was a father-figure to so many people including his siblings, Nora Aranda, Dionisio Mendoza, and Delia Lagbao, his nephews and nieces, and his church family.
Pastor Max leaves behind a legacy of generosity, kindness, and a life devoted to God. He brightened up every room with his big smile and big hugs. He was full of compassion and warmth and did everything he could to be a blessing to the people around him.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
